Week 5 NFL betting preview, picks

Indianapolis Colts (-7) vs. Las Vegas Raiders | 1 p.m. ET | Sunday, Oct. 5

The Colts are 3-1, only a few plays away from being unbeaten after a close loss on the road against the Rams last week. Meanwhile, the Raiders are 1-3, having lost three straight games since an opening week victory in New England. With star tight end Brock Bowers unlikely to play, Las Vegas has a major hill to climb on the road in Week 5. The SportsLine model gives the Colts a 57% chance to cover this spread of a touchdown.

Detroit Lions (-10.5) at Cincinnati Bengals | 4:25 p.m. ET | Sunday, Oct. 5

After losing in two touchdowns in Green Bay in Week 1, Detroit has won the next three games by a combined 63 points. Now they face a Bengals team who has lost two straight games by a combined 63 points. Without star quarterback Joe Burrow, the Bengals look lost on offense while Detroit is just the opposite. The SportsLine model predicts a 14-point Lions win on the road this Sunday and predicts they will cover the spread with 57% certainty.

Buffalo Bills (-8.5) vs. New England Patriots | 8:20 p.m. ET | Sunday, Sept. 28

Buffalo is one of two undefeated teams remaining (Philadelphia) and has scored at least 30 points in each of their four games. Now they host a Patriots team who dominated Carolina 42-13 in Week 4 and is looking to prove that they’re among the second-tier of teams in the AFC. The SportsLine model isn’t as confident in New England’s chances, giving Buffalo a 68% chance to cover the spread in an expected blowout on Sunday Night Football.
