Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku carved his name into the franchise’s top ten in receiving yards. Njoku made an impressive catch on a 17-yard jump ball up the sideline during the Browns’ two-minute drill. The catch put the Browns in the red zone and Njoku in the franchise’s NFL record book. Njoku moved into tenth place in receiving yards in the Browns’ NFL history. Njoku’s three receptions for 41 yards pushed him ahead of Hall of Famer Dante Lavelli’s NFL numbers. Lavelli remains second in the Browns’ all-time receiving list, with 6,488 receiving yards, which includes the stats from the AAFC.
Njoku is currently bearing down on 4,000 receiving yards in a Browns uniform. He’s currently at 3,938 receiving yards – 300 yards behind Brian Brennan and Milt Morin, the eleventh and tenth all-time receiving leaders for the Browns. Njoku is in the final year of his contract, and it’s unclear how much longer he’ll remain a Brown. One of the team’s best leaders wasn’t rewarded with a contract this offseason. If Njoku finishes the season with the Browns, he should solidify himself in the top-ten all-time receiving yards. But if Njoku stays in Cleveland, he could finish his career inside the top three in receiving yards. The Browns should do everything they can to keep the talented tight end.
