Mike Florio slams Rams fans after 49ers Faithful bring ‘sea of red’ to SoFi originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

The 49ers took over SoFi Stadium once again in their 26-23 overtime Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.

And no one was surprised.

Well, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio was just a tad. The longtime analyst explained why he expected more from Rams fans in what essentially was a 49ers home game, when appearing on “Pro Football Talk” with Michael Holley on Friday for NFL on NBC.

“I don’t know who to recognize more here — the 49ers fans for taking over the home stadium of a team that was 3-1 that is, or at least was, in the Super Bowl window, or the fans of a team that didn’t show up?” Florio rhetorically asked Holley. “And it’s not like it’s an unusual occurrence.

“The 49ers fans take [SoFi Stadium] over, unlike any others. But at any given SoFi Stadium game for either [Rams or Chargers], you’re going to have a loud contingent of fans of the opponent. And that’s just the reality of football in LA.”

It truly looked like SoFi Stadium was located in the Bay Area.

Florio added that he believes the NFL’s 22-year absence from LA is to blame for the city’s two teams virtually playing on the road for all of their games.

That claim makes sense, and was crystal clear as nothing but red covered the 70,000-seater in Inglewood.

“It’s a sea of red everywhere,” Florio said. “And you can hear them from the opening drive. You can hear the chants of ‘Defense, defense,’ as the game was on the line. … Rams did the silent count all day at home — at home. And I think they’ve become resigned to it. …

“49ers fans, credit to them.”

Like every other team, San Francisco has nine home games and nine road games.

However, the 49ers always seem to have one more home game and one fewer road game, and the opposite is true for the Rams.

“It just shows you how impressive it was for the 49ers, and how depressing it was for the Rams.”
