The New York Jets are now 0-5 to start the season after a 37-22 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and cornerback Sauce Gardner is struggling to sleep because of the unwanted streak.

It’s been a disastrous start for new head coach Aaron Glenn after he was poached from the Detroit Lions, and Gardner can’t pinpoint where the Jets are going wrong. Last week, running back Breece Hall suggested that New York wasn’t shooting itself in the foot but in the head.

After attempting to issue a reality check, Hall lost a costly fumble in the second quarter against the Cowboys, and the game quickly turned against the Jets. Gardner is desperate to turn things around but is struggling to figure out how.

Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s defeat, Gardner suggested that it could be another sleepless night. “It’s hard to process, it’s keeping me up at night trying to process,” he said.

When asked why the team struggled against an injury-ridden Cowboys, Gardner bluntly admitted: “Not good enough.”

While the Cowboys have some elite talent on the roster, many of their big stars were missing in New York. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is still injured, and fellow wideout KaVontae Turpin was also ruled out for Sunday.

The Jets also had a great opportunity to pressure Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Four of Dallas’ starting offensive linemen were out on Sunday, but the replacements protected the quarterback efficiently at MetLife Stadium.

With the offense struggling to oversee consistent scoring drives and the defense failing to keep points off the board, Gardner can’t help but feel frustrated. “I try and think about the good through all of this,” he said.

“I’m trying to sleep, and it’s like, ‘Damn, why are we not winning? Why, when something goes good for us, something bad gotta… take one step forward, take two steps back.’

“Trying to think, pinpoint what it really is. I can’t process that at all. We’ve got to try and get one (win).”

Gardner had two solo tackles and defended one pass during Sunday’s defeat, but was brutally exposed by the Cowboys for a touchdown. Prescott threw a perfect 43-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver George Pickens, which sailed over Gardner’s head.

Despite a fifth-straight defeat, the Jets have been close to claiming a maiden win on the season. New York collapsed in the fourth quarter of its Week 1 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was well beaten by the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.

The Jets then suffered one-possession losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins, before being dominated by the Cowboys. New York will attempt to claim its first win of the season in Week 6, but faces the Denver Broncos in London.
