What was supposed to be a quieter Saturday than Week 5 still produced another round of close matches and upsets that reshaped this week’s AP Poll. Five ranked teams fell in Week 6, including two in the Top 10, leaving the Top 25 looking much different heading into Week 7.

For the sixth straight week, Ohio State held the No. 1 spot. The defending national champion Buckeyes outscored their five opponents this season 187-25 and continued to look dominant on both sides of the ball. Miami climbed back to No. 2 after a 28-22 road win over Florida State, jumping idle Oregon, which slid to No. 3. Ole Miss stayed put at No. 4 after a bye week, while Texas A&M cracked the Top 5 for the first time since Week 2 of 2021. Oklahoma followed close behind at No. 6 after another dominant win without John Mateer.

Indiana ticked up two slots to No. 7 and Alabama continued its climb up the rankings, improving to No. 8 after a 30-14 win over Vanderbilt in Tuscaloosa. Texas Tech surged into the Top 10 for the first time since 2013 after ending Houston’s undefeated season, landing at No. 9. Georgia returned to the Top 10 at the tenth spot following a 35-14 victory over Kentucky, while Penn State tumbled out of the Top 25 after a shocking loss to previously winless UCLA. The Nittany Lions’ defeat marked the first time since 1985 that an 0-4 team beat an AP Top 10 opponent, ending their 34-game streak against unranked foes.

Likewise, Texas, which opened the season ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, also dropped out of the rankings after a 29-21 loss at Florida. The Longhorns allowed seven yards per play to a Gators offense that entered the week ranked 120th nationally, going into the game.

Movers of the Week

Biggest jumps: Six teams climbed five spots this week.  Every team from No. 14 Missouri through No. 19 Virginia all moved up together following the shakeups in the Top 15.

Biggest drops: Texas and Penn State, the preseason No. 1 and No. 2, both fell out of the rankings entirely. Iowa State dropped eight spots to No. 22 after a 38-30 loss at Cincinnati. Vanderbilt fell four spots following its first loss of the season, while Florida State barely held on to the No. 25 position after its second straight defeat.

New entrants: Memphis entered the Top 25 for the first time this season after starting 6-0, and South Florida returned following a brief hiatus.
