A few biased boosters, fine. Surely, though, no Arkansas fan in his or her right mind would actually want Bobby Petrino to be the full-time head coach in 2026 and beyond.

Right?

Arkansas message board poster Suff: “I can’t get rid of the part of me that hopes Bobby is coach. I know it would probably be a long-term mistake, but damn, it also feels like nature is healing and balance has been restored to the world.”

Here’s the good news, for those of us who want to believe in logic, reason, humanity and the idea that people have paid attention to anything at all in the past couple of decades or so: That comment was very difficult to find. Arkansas fans don’t want Petrino. They shouldn’t, and they don’t, and frankly, I don’t buy that his candidacy is much more than the whims of a couple of out-of-touch cronies and some careful words on a press release.

But we’ll see. A surprising surge with Petrino in charge would increase the chatter, at least. That’s also very unlikely. I’m not liking the Hogs in Petrino’s latest debut, Saturday at Tennessee, or beyond.

Among the kinder rebukes of the idea, here’s Weshawg21: “I love Bobby. You love Bobby. We all love Bobby. It can’t be Bobby. I know it and you know it. Let’s just enjoy these next couple of months.”

Well said. This coaching search has more potential than a grim run-back to keep the wheels spinning for a few more years. We’re talking Jon Gruden over here. We’re talking Hugh Freeze, unappreciated at Auburn and seeking fans who will love him. Shoot, we’re talking Dabo. Apparently, word has reached the Arkansas boards that Swinney is feeling underappreciated at Clemson and casting an eye toward Fayetteville.

Jegreenwood’s response to that: “Ozempic Bielema.”

Ouch. At least the arguing at this point is mostly about coaches other than Petrino. Still, the question is raised: What other fans clinging on islands of bad takes, such as Suff, can we shame this week?

Bobby Petrino is once again head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Ohio State fans who still think Ryan Day is a problem

Obviously, if the Buckeyes lose again to Michigan this season, a lot of old wounds will be reopened and a 10-month-old national championship will be regarded as some relic from the Woody Hayes era. But right now? Seems like contentment with the coaching should be a non-controversial, rather universal stance. Until new information dictates otherwise.

But BigBuckCrazy1977? Oh, BigBuckCrazy1977. Lettermen Row readers know him well. It merely took a few series of Washington hanging around last weekend for him to take his concerns right to the top in a storm of posts.

“Day puckers up in big games.”

“Washington is going to win this game.”

A few minutes later: “Washington is going to win this game.”

A few minutes after that: “Day puckers up in big games. Why were you surprised? I said this, this week.”

Most of the responses were pure vitriol. But Corybuckeye earns a mention for succumbing to the panic, writing: “(Dave) Portnoy said it on the pregame show. No one pees down their leg better than we do.”

BigBuckCrazy1977: “I got made fun of all week for this.”

A few minutes later: “I’ve kept a long list of receipts lol.”

Soon enough, of course, Ohio State was in full control, and there were many, many more posts about/at BigBuckCrazy1977 than by BigBuckCrazy1977. Fast forward to Friday afternoon. BigBuckCrazy1977 started a thread titled: “I was wrong.”

The way-too-long post can be summed up as such: I’ve been too negative, and I’m sorry. The responses were a mix of sympathetic and scolding. The test would be the next game. And in the relatively light game thread of 14 pages tracking OSU 42, Minnesota 3 (the angry threads are the much longer threads), BigBuckCrazy1977 … abstained from commenting.

Seems like a quick “attaboy” would have been nice. The silent bliss of BigBuckCrazy1977 may be tested next time out, at Illinois. More importantly, the bulk of Ohio State message board posters seem to be watching in a measured way and giving their reigning national championship coach the benefit of the doubt. This is growth!

Billy Napier-supporting Florida fans who think he can still get this done

I’m generally not an advocate of hate-watching, but that’s basically where Florida fans had to be Saturday as their team — still fighting, still playing defense, now also playing offense, still not trending toward championship football with Napier in charge — took it to Arch Manning and the Longhorns. Napier looked done a year ago, Gators fans know well, and then he turned it around with a late run and fooled people into thinking 2025 would be the breakthrough and … yeah. The Athletic’s Matt Baker has methodically broken down his failures and why a change would seem inevitable.

Most Florida fans seem to believe that. Threads on the next coach abound, the only mentions of Napier for the purpose of insulting him. Or from posters who claim to have a source who has told them he’s been told he’s going to be fired, when the buyout gets a little cheaper. What a work environment that would be.

So then Florida throttles Texas, 29-21. What a fun day for Gators fans. Unless any of them think Napier can pull off another Houdini. Are any of them open to the idea after this unforeseen breakthrough, even if it came against perhaps the most overrated football team in the preseason?

Thread title started by GoGator10: “Why am I Back on the Billy Napier Bandwagon?”

Don’t do it, GoGator10!

AshevilleGator: “Why are you back on the Billy Napier bandwagon? Memory loss?”

That was one of the kinder responses.

North Carolina fans who remain excited about Bill Belichick

Just kidding, I can’t find one of those. Nor can I find any Penn State fans fiercely defending James Franklin, Ohio State fans lamenting the loss of defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, NFL fans suggesting their team tank so they can take Manning No. 1 or Georgia fans enjoying the sight of watching Carson Beck play. If you come across any of these people on the internet, please leave details and their handles in the comments below.
