FOX Sports commentator and NFL legend Tom Brady handed Washington Commanders rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt his Player of the Game Award on Sunday.

On Sunday in Week 5, Brady was on the call as FOX Sports’ Game of the Week took place between the Commanders and the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. While the seven-time Super Bowl champion took a shot at his former teammate Rob Gronkowski during the coverage, Brady watched on as the Commanders upset the Chargers on the road.

Washington secured a stunning 27-10 win over Los Angeles, with their offensive performance largely stemming from the impressive play of rookie Croskey-Merritt. The seventh-rounder was a popular Fantasy Football choice earlier in the year, and thanks to Austin Ekeler’s injury, he was thrust into the spotlight earlier than planned.

But Croskey-Merritt delivered. He led a potent Washington rushing attack on Sunday, turning 14 carries into 111 yards rushing along with two touchdowns while also hauling in two catches for 39 yards to dice the Los Angeles defense.

After the game, receiver Deebo Samuel declared his teammate should likely get Rookie of the Week honors. The NFL may take notice, but Brady has already given Croskey-Merritt his flowers.

Brady awarded Croskey-Merritt with his LFG Player of the Game Award, and the rookie was delighted. Speaking to Brady in his post-game interview while receiving the award, he said: “It definitely gives me a lot of confidence.

“I want to say thanks to God, my teammates, and my family for just being with me the whole way, so it definitely gives me a lot of confidence. It feels amazing, I’m so thankful for this organization for believing in me, [and] for trusting me.”

As the rookie heated up, chants of “Bill, Bill, Bill!” from the large swathes of Commanders fans in attendance at SoFi Stadium rang out. Croskey-Merritt’s 16 touches marked a career high, and he now has 283 rushing yards and 322 total yards this season.

He’s fifth among all rookie running backs in total yards this year, ahead of Sunday Night Football, while his four touchdowns are tied with Ashton Jeanty for the most among rookie rushers in the NFL.
