Week 6 of the college football weekend was a doozy. It featured a handful of high-profile games, but none were more shocking and upset-filled than the match between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the UCLA Bruins.
The Nittany Lions, who entered Saturday’s match at the iconic Rose Bowl as over three touchdown favorites, were knocked down by the then 0-4 Bruins on the road.
It was a contest that shocked many, as no one would have thought that argubaly the worst team in college football would even come close to beating a powerhouse like Penn State.

The Nittany Lions were dominated throughout the 60-minute contest and suffered their second consecutive loss. It’s been a tough two weeks for the Nittany Lions, and it got even worse when former college football star Greg McElroy went all in on attacking Penn State.
In the latest episode of his show, Always College Football with Greg McElroy, he didn’t mince any words about the Big Ten powerhouse, saying that they have hit rock bottom.
“Penn State just flat out got outcoached, ” said McElroy. “That’s what it was. I mean, they got outcoached and they ran into a super-talented quarterback that got hot. That’s pretty simple. And I think when you look at this one, it’s remarkably disappointing for Penn State. It really is. And I’m not trying to spin it. I’m not trying to say that, oh well, they still have everything in front of them. Like, this one is a killer, especially, you know, when you still have to go to Ohio State and some of the challenging games that you have coming up here in the future. This one’s a killer. But this was not because of a lack of effort. This was not because of a lack of preparation. They just got outcoached, especially on critical down and distance.”
Penn State head coach James Franklin and his team did not bring the necessary effort to win what should have been a rather easy contest for his Nittany Lions. They suffered a tough home loss to the Oregon Ducks and an upset loss to the Bruins in consecutive weeks.
The sky may not be falling yet for Penn State, but it is safe to say the way they are trending, they are right on that track, and it could mean the beginning of the end for Franklin.
