Mahomes completed 29 of 41 passes for 318 yards and a score during Monday Night Football.

But the game turned on a crucial interception late in the third quarter.

With the Chiefs in the RedZone and tied 14-14, Mahomes dropped into the pocket and threw an aggressive bullet pass towards wideout Juju Smith-Schuster.

His pass was brilliantly picked off on the goal line by Devin Lloyd, who set off on one of the best runs of the season so far.

Lloyd went the full 99 yards to the house, evading three Chiefs tackles and outpacing the chasing offensive line.

The pick six would change the game, with Jags QB Trevor Lawrence later diving in for the winning score.

“Obviously, it sucks,” a devastated Mahomes said.

“You let a game slip away. It still sucks whenever you get a lead and you’re not able to hold it.

“We have the guys and we’ve executed at certain points in games and looked really good, but we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes.

“We’ve done that to ourselves all season long. It’s been one guy here or there.

“In this league, it’s so close that those [moments] change games.”

The Chiefs drop to 2-3 after the loss and are 3rd in the AFC West.

It’s Kansas City’s worst start since 2021 – but they showed in that season things can turn around.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to 12-5 and the AFC championship game that year but faces a tough task to repeat the feat.

“We’ve got to be better,” he admitted.

“We’ve lost too many games already.”
