The incident occurred late on in the Cardinals’ 22-21 defeat to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Demercado, 26, looked to be on his way for a 72-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

If he had scored, then the Cardinals would have taken a commanding 28-6 lead at State Farm Stadium.

However, he fumbled the ball just one yard short of the inzone after celebrating too early and the chance went begging.

The error saw the Titans rejuvenated and storm back into the contest with 16 points without reply to claim their first win of the season.

Gannon, 42, was seething on the touchline as he scolded Demercado before pushing him in the shoulder pads.

He has now apologized for his behaviour and admitted he “didn’t feel great about it.”

Speaking to reporters, he said: “I just told [the team], I kind of let the moment of what happened get the better of me there.

“I apologized to Emari, apologized to the team.

“Obviously, I try to be emotionally stable and calm because my job is to solve problems during a game and lead the charge on that.

“So, it’s not really who I am, who I want to be, and I told the guys that.

“So, it’s a mistake by me, and it’s just like everybody in there.

“Everybody made some type of mistake which culminates to why we didn’t win the game, and we can’t let it happen moving forward.”

Fans were also left fuming at Demercado’s error as they hit out on social media.

Many claimed that the running back should be suspended for dropping the ball.

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had sympathy for Dermacado when speaking post-game.

He said: “I know his character. I know his IQ of the game.

“And never in a million years would I think that Emari would do that.

“But obviously, we all make mistakes. He’s going to take that on the chin. He understands that.”
