Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters after the Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, reflecting on the 99-yard pick-six in the second half.
“Yeah, I mean, honestly, they got me with the coverage that they played. They had played (cover) zero kind of inside that 10-yard area in previous games, and they hadn’t shown the poppers with the linebackers popping out when they’re protected,” said Mahomes, “I think back to a game against Cincinnati earlier in the year, Ja’Marr Chase, kind of on a slant route. So I saw the look, I checked to the play with the end routes having three ends, knowing that they were trying to pass off the guys, and JuJu (Smith-Schuster) was going to pop wide open, and he did.”

Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd picked off Patrick Mahomes at the goal line, taking the interception 99 yards for the score, giving Jacksonville its first lead of the game in the third quarter.
“But credit to them, I mean, they schemed themselves, and they looked over what they could do better, and they popped right underneath where I was throwing the ball.” said Mahomes, “So it was a great call with them defensively, and obviously a great play by zero (Lloyd) getting the pick, and then I got to find a way to tackle him or slow him down after he gets the interception.”
The Jaguars entered Week 5 leading the NFL with defensive takeaways, and they lived up to the hype in the Monday night victory.
