After yet another year of futility, Orioles fans sang the same old couple of songs this autumn — “The Party’s Over” and “Wait Till Next Year.” We all know the lyrics by heart (“The Orioles needed accountability. Mike Elias offered deflection,” Oct. 2).
And now this past Sunday, in front of a purple-clad hometown sell-out crowd, the Ravens’ next-man-up approach failed miserably. It was certainly embarrassing and almost masochistic watching that nationally televised brutal fiasco to its bitter end. The preseason Super Bowl favorites disintegrated to 1-4. So is it too soon for us to sing those same two songs? For me, it’s a tad early. But I’m definitely humming them!
Down the road in Washington, D.C., abnormal behavior has become the norm. It’s persistent. That includes the demeaning and cringeworthy computer-generated videos that now seem to appear daily. Beyond a lack of maturity and rationality, sanity itself is on furlough within the administration of President Donald Trump.
Consequently, there are realistic hopes and eager anticipation that the 2026 mid-term elections will flip Congress from Republican to Democratic control. Perhaps “Wait Till Next Year” should be the Dems’ mantra for the remainder of 2025.
