As a season ticket holder since the 1996 inaugural season, I felt my heart skip a beat when the Ravens PSL owners’ welcome box arrived in September. Oh, it was filled with some nice freebies, including a Ravens can koozie and even an attractive mini-helmet. But what chilled my blood was the marketing touting the commemoration of the team’s 30th season in Baltimore.

TV ads emphasizing the “Forevermore” 30th season celebration soon followed. You see, I remembered that the 10th and 20th anniversary teams ended up being nothing to celebrate. A quick internet search confirmed that the 2005 team went 6-10. Ten years later, the 20th anniversary team went 5-11. Perhaps these every-10-years observances aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.

Although on Sunday I attended one of the worst games in franchise history, I still read the postmortem the following day (“5 things we learned from the Ravens’ 44-10 loss to the Texans,” Oct. 6). Perhaps, we Ravens fans should have decaphobia, the fear of the number 10 and things associated with it. Let’s just hope that double-digit number doesn’t appear in our loss column at season’s end.
