While the San Francisco 49ers finished up their Week 5 game early, beating the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 at SoFi Stadium on Thursday, linebacker Fred Warner still had some work to do for the Monday Night Football game.
Warner joined Peyton and Eli Manning on the “Manningcast” alternate broadcast for the Monday night showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. Throughout his segment, Warner dropped some hilarious lines, including one about Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell while discussing teams going for it on fourth down.

“Dan Campbell and the Lions were the worst thing to happen to football,” Warner said. “I’m just kidding. Those guys go for it every play, so it’s like now teams are like ‘Man, that’s actually not a bad idea. How about we go for it?’ So you do it expect them to go for it all the time.”
Campbell has certainly proved to be a bit of a gambler on fourth down since he began coaching the Lions in 2021. This year, Detroit has gone for it on nine of their 37 fourth downs, which equates to 24.3% of the time. He’s also succeed on seven of those nine (77.8%), so it’s a worthy gamble.
San Francisco has gone for it on eight of their 38 fourth downs this year, converting six of them (75%).
Now, we wait to see if Campbell takes offense to that joke, like Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen took offense to 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s comments a few weeks back.
