UPDATE: Colts kicker Spencer Shrader tore multiple ligaments in his kicking leg and is out for the season.
Colts kicker Spencer Shrader left Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders with a leg injury and his status for Indy’s upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals is undetermined.
Shrader’s right leg was taken out by Raiders safety Tristin McCollum on an extra point, injuring Shrader’s knee on his kicking leg.
With the Colts likely in need of a kicker, here are the best free agent options.
Rodrigo Blankenship
The former Georgia Bulldog won the Lou Groza award for the top kicker in college football as a senior and signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Known for his bespectacled look, “Hot Rod” played in 22 games over three seasons with the Colts making 45 of 54 kicks (83%). He was released after Week 1 in 2022 after kicking two kickoffs out of bounds and missing a potential game-winning 42-yarder in overtime. He kicked in two games for the Cardinals in 2022 and most recently for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL. He recently went viral for his weekly series recreating the biggest kicks of the week.
This is awesome: Former NFL kicker Rodrigo Blankenship is trying to convince NFL teams to give him a chance by performing a weekly series titled “Recreating the biggest kicks” until he gets a tryout.
Many NFL teams would benefit from having him on their roster.
