Tommy Akingbesote, Shakel Brown, Michale Dwumfour, Jonathan Garvin, Bruce Hector, Jah Joyner and DeMarcus Walker all worked out in Santa Clara.
Walker has the most experience in the group with 100 games played in eight years in the NFL. He started all 17 games for the Chicago Bears last season as a defensive end and was released by the team in February.
Hector played six games for the New York Jets last season, tallying one sack and 10 total tackles. He participated in the 49ers’ preseason training camp but was released Aug. 26.
Dwumfour played in one game last season with the Cleveland Browns. He also played in two games with the 49ers in 2022.
Garvin played three seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2020 to 2022. He also participated in the 49ers’ preseason training camp and was released Aug. 26.
Brown has signed with three different practice squads, including San Francisco, since 2023. But he never has appeared in a regular-season game.
Akingbesote was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, but was waived on Aug. 26.
Joyner signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent earlier this year. He was waived by the Raiders on Aug. 25.
For the current 49ers, Robert Beal Jr. missed last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with an ankle sprain. C.J. West played with a broken thumb. And Nick Bosa, of course, is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Coming out of the game in Los Angeles, Alfred Collins will be evaluated this week with a knee sprain. Kalia Davis and Yetur Gross-Matos will miss time with a broken hand and hamstring strain, respectively.
