Michael Davis is signing to the #Saints’ active roster. He agreed to sign with the team’s practice squad and then the #Lions called to sign him, so up to the active roster the veteran corner goes in New Orleans. https://t.co/DpWN2AHkMz

It appears the Detroit Lions were trying to add a veteran cornerback to the roster, but they lost out to the New Orleans Saints.
That’s the report out of New Orleans and advanced by NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, who posted that the Saints were signing cornerback Michael Davis to their active roster. The Saints were going to sign Davis to their practice squad, but Garafolo reports the Lions also called and offered Davis a spot. New Orleans subsequently signed Davis to their active 53-man roster.
It was an attempt by the Lions to bolster the sagging depth chart at cornerback. Detroit has lost both starting corners, D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold, to injuries. Reed is on I.R., while Arnold’s prognosis is the subject of conflicting speculation. Reserve Khalil Dorsey is also injured and expected to miss significant time, per head coach Dan Campbell.
Davis, 30, was with the Washington Commanders in 2024, playing as a reserve outside CB. He played seven seasons prior with the Chargers, starting nearly 80 games.
