With kickoff fast approaching, we’re looking at one thing to watch at each position on Amazon Prime Thursday Night Football

The New York Giants (1-4) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) on Thursday night, October 9, at MetLife Stadium.

The kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime and will be the 183rd regular-season meeting between the two teams, with the Eagles leading the series, 93-87-2. The Giants are 50-41-1 at home against the Eagles, and the two teams last met in Week 18 of the 2024 season at Lincoln Financial Field. The Giants’ most recent victory over Philadelphia was late in the 2023 season ( Jan. 7, 2024) when they defeated the Eagles at home, 27-10.

Kickoff is fast approaching, and we’re looking at one thing to watch for Philadelphia at each position.

QB: Can Jalen Hurts play a complete game

Hurts is tied for 3rd in the NFL with 11 total touchdowns, trailing only Josh Allen (12) and Jared Goff (12) in that category. Hurts owns the top TD-TO ratio (11:1) in the league and ranks 1st among NFL QBs with four rushing scores, but he’s struggled in the second half of games, and in last week’s collapse against the Broncos, the Eagles’ offense had a total of nine yards on four late-game drives.

RB: How does Saquon Barkley respond at MetLife Stadium

Barkley is returning to his former home, and he’ll be dealing with a knee injury and coming off a game where he had one carry in the final 35 minutes of the 21-17 loss to Denver in Week 5.

WR: Giants offer a chance for A.J. Brown to explode

Brown, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley had a heart-to-heart on Monday, and the All-Pro wide receiver will face a Giants defense allowing close to 240 yards passing per game, which is ranked 25th in the NFL in that category.

TE:

Dallas Goedert has logged 1+ receiving touchdowns in three straight games, marking the longest streak by an Eagles tight end since Zach Ertz in 2017 (four).

OL: Can Brett Toth replace Landon Dickerson?

Landon Dickerson’s availability for the Eagles’ Thursday night game against the Giants and Week 7 against the Vikings is in question after an ankle injury suffered in the loss to the Broncos. Brett Toth played 49 snaps in the loss to Denver with Dickerson out, but joined Cam Jurgens as the only offensive linemen to register less than an 80+ grade from PFF.

DT/Edge Rusher:

A unit full of elite talent has registered just 4.5 sacks and 4.7 rushing yards allowed through the first five games. Za’Darius Smith just joined the Eagles, and he remains the only edge rusher with a sack all year. Jalen Carter is tied for the 2nd-most QB hits (6) among NFL defensive tackles this season, trailing only Jeffery Simmons (9) in that category, but he hasn’t had a dominant performance.

Linebacker:

Jihaad Campbell and Zack Baun combined for 25+ tackles in the loss to Denver, and they are the only NFL linebacker duo with 30+ tackles, 1+ FF, and 1+ takeaway.

Cornerback: Quinyon Mitchell’s bounce-back performance

Mitchell ranks 1st in the league with seven forced incompletions, T-3rd in completion percentage allowed (45.0%), as well as 4th in passer rating allowed (57.1) (min. 20 targets). Still, he was baptized by Courtland Sutton last Sunday and will look to rebound.

Safety: Andrew Mukuba continues to improve

The second-round pick has earned Vic Fangio’s trust and led the Eagles in snaps for the second straight week. Pro Football Focus ranks Mukuba as the 112th safety out of 134, with a 49.5 coverage grade, and 80th overall. Still, he’s been active, and in his first four games, Mukuba has an interception, one pass breakup, a half-sack, and 19 tackles.
