Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson shares an injury update that could affect the team’s secondary. Discover the details here.
In a recent appearance on 670 The Score’s Spiegel & Holmes Show, Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson offered the most comprehensive update yet on the groin injury that has dogged him this season and made no guarantees about his availability going forward.
“The biggest thing for me is to try to just get healthy as quick as I can,” Johnson said. “For me, I’m not putting a timeline on anything. I’m not going to say, ‘Oh, yeah, I’ll be good in 6-8 weeks.’ I’m not going to say I’m going to be good in three months, after the season. I can’t tell you that.”
What It Means for the Bears
Losing Johnson — a two-time Pro Bowler and key presence in the secondary — is a blow. He’s been seen as one of Chicago’s strongest shutdown corner options, capable of matching up against elite wideouts. His absence forces the Bears to rely more heavily on Tyrique Stevenson, Nahshon Wright, or other secondary depth options.
The timing compounds the strain. Losing Johnson’s experience, instincts, and playmaking has already led to challenges in coverage, especially in man-heavy looks or when quarterbacks challenge the boundaries.
One silver lining: Johnson seems to be approaching this with measured realism. He’s not shutting down hope entirely, but he is sounding like a player more focused on long-term wellness than risking a re-injury by pushing back too early.
