Following a gut-wrenching loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at home, things have not trended upward for the Arizona Cardinals as the week has gone on.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon was fined $100,000 for a sideline altercation with running back Emari Demercado, during which he appeared to make physical contact with the player. On Wednesday, Gannon also announced that starting quarterback Kyler Murray would not practice due to a foot injury.

He said the team is taking the injury “day by day,” and Murray’s status for Sunday’s Week 6 game in Indianapolis against the AFC-leading Colts remains uncertain.

“If he’s healthy enough to play, he’ll play,” Gannon told reporters.

Murray briefly exited to the locker room for evaluation after an early fourth-quarter fumble against the Titans, forcing him to miss the first two offensive snaps of the next possession before returning to finish the game.

The Cardinals led 21-6 early in the fourth quarter before a series of errors handed Tennessee its first win of the season, 22-21. A Demercado fumble on the goal line at the end of a would-be 72-yard touchdown run sparked the Titans’ comeback, condemning the Cardinals to their third straight loss after a 2-0 start to the season.

Also in the fourth, Arizona fumbled an interception that Tennessee recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Sixteen unanswered fourth-quarter points from the Titans culminated in a Joey Slye 29-yard game-winning kick, punctuating a monumental collapse for the Cardinals and their fans in the desert.

Murray has thrown for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions so far this season. The former Heisman Trophy winner and seventh-year veteran has also added a rushing touchdown to his campaign.

If Murray were to miss Sunday’s game against the Colts, it would mark his first absence since 2023, when he returned from a torn ACL. Next in line under center is longtime journeyman Jacoby Brissett, who signed with Arizona in the offseason on a two-year, $12.5 million deal.

Brissett is now with his seventh franchise in his 10th NFL season. He has started 53 games over that span, most recently making five starts with the New England Patriots last season before the reins were handed to 2024 third overall pick Drake Maye.

Gannon also announced that defensive end Darius Robinson, the Cardinals’ 2024 first-round pick out of Missouri, would miss practice on Wednesday. Robinson is recovering from a pectoral muscle injury sustained in Week 4.
