Kyler Murray has been a bit questionable since exiting for a time in last weekend’s loss to the Tennessee Titans. Now, his status remains that way going into Sunday’s next game against the Indianapolis Colts, in another matchup against the AFC South.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Murray’s status while on ‘Get Up’ on Thursday morning. He noted that he did return in the fourth quarter against Tennessee, but, with him not practicing on Wednesday, it could be that we see Jacoby Brissett start for the Arizona Cardinals this weekend in Indianpolis.
“Big questions in Arizona surrounding their quarterback, Kyler Murray, who’s dealing with a foot injury. Didn’t practice yesterday. They’re saying he’s day-to-day,” said Schefter. “He came back in and finished the game against Tennessee, so that usually is a sign that a player is able to play the next week. But, if he can’t, Jacoby Brissett would come on and start against his former Colts team in Indianapolis this weekend.”
Attempting to go after his own fumble from a snap late in the third quarter, Murray apparently injured his foot on the play. He was labeled as questionable at that point, but only missed one drive to end the third before returning to the field in the fourth. However, despite him returning, and that turnover resulting in no points, Arizona still blew a 21-6 lead to a winless team in Tennessee, as the Titans won 22-21 to end a ten-game losing streak that extended back to last season. That gave the Cardinals a third-straight loss to fall to 2-3 overall.
Murray has had an alright season through five games. He is 110-161 (68.3%) for 962 yards, currently averaging career lows in passing yards per game and per attempt, with six touchdowns and three interceptions, while also running for 173 yards and another score. He had one of his better passing games against Tennessee, but didn’t throw for a touchdown, although getting his lone rushing score on the year so far, in the one-point loss to the Titans.
In his very short appearance with Murray sidelined, Brissett made one pass for an incompletion. He’s known to be one of the more capable backups in the league, though, as, in a decade-long career, he has made 53 starts in 89 appearances for five franchises now.
By Sunday’s noon kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium, Murray could be in the lineup for Arizona against one of the surprises of the season so far in the Colts (4-1). However, that’ll be better determined today with his updated status from practice for the Cardinals.
