A terrific regular season ended painfully for the Virginia Tech softball team on Friday. The third-seeded Hokies led second-seeded Clemson 9-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the Hokies couldn’t find the strike zone, and the Tigers scored eight runs, taking a 10-9 lead.
That’s how things ended for Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament. However, on Sunday, it was time for the next step in VT’s 2025 softball season: The NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
The Hokies finished the season with a 41-11 record, including an 18-6 mark in ACC play. They were consistently ranked among the country’s top 25 teams. This week, the Lady Hokies will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in their quest to win the College Softball World Series.
Virginia Tech will face Belmont on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ in the Tuscaloosa Regional. Here are the four schools in the Tuscaloosa Regional:
Alabama
Virginia Tech
Belmont
Jackson State
This is the sixth straight tournament appearance for the Hokies under coach Pete D’Amour.
The double-elimination Regional concluded on Saturday, May 18, with the winner advancing to meet the Norman (Oklahoma) Regional winner in the NCAA Super Regional round on May 23-25. If the Hokies can advance past the Norman Regional, they’ll advance to the College World Series, which begins on May 29.
Go Hokies!
