It’s been two-plus games since Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb last took the field, and though they won’t have him for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, the team may not have to wait much longer for Lamb’s return.

The four-time Pro Bowl wideout suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 3’s 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears, and despite telling reporters after the game he felt like he could play the following week, Lamb has missed Dallas’ last two games, and he’s been ruled out for Week 6 as well.

But some encouraging news hit Cowboys fans’ social media feeds on Wednesday when it was reported that although Lamb wasn’t practicing, he was back doing on-filed drills. Then on Thursday, some even more positive news dropped.

“Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb was back on the chords today,” Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News wrote on X on Thursday. “I will say: this was definitely an acceleration in his rehabilitation work. Feels like next Sunday against Washington is more of a target for Lamb than this Sunday, IMO.”

And Hoyt isn’t the only Cowboys insider who believes Lamb will be back in time for Dallas’ Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders on Oct. 19.

“CeeDee Lamb continues to make progress from his high left ankle sprain. Just my guess: don’t rule him out for next week’s game vs. Washington,” ESPN’s Todd Archer added.

The positive practice reports are a good sign that Lamb is, in fact, on track to return after missing three games.

Though George Pickens (10 receptions, 191 yards, three touchdowns) and Ryan Flournoy (eight receptions, 128 yards) have stepped up and flourished in Lamb’s absence, there’s no question the Cowboys are champing at the bit to get him back.

In the two full games he played before his injury, Lamb had seven catches for 110 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, and nine catches for 112 yards against the New York Giants the following week.
