The Detroit Lions (4-1) are headed for Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night to take on the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3).
The Lions have had one of the best offenses in football over the last four games, all of which they’ve won and most of which their best players have consistently shined. Last Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals saw five players score double-digit fantasy points for the second time this season.
The Lions offense also reminded the league last week that they’re still willing and able to score on trick plays under first-year offensive coordinator John Morton. Fantasy managers who played running back David Montgomery were rewarded with a passing touchdown as well as a rushing touchdown from Knuckles.
As always, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs are automatic starts every week.
Detroit Lions Start/Sit for Week 6 vs. Kansas City ChiefsSit: Jared Goff
I know the Chiefs just gave up 27 fantasy points to Trevor Lawrence on Monday night, but a chunk of that came on a last-minute play that started with Lawrence lying flat on his face. Lions quarterback Jared Goff doesn’t have nearly the rushing upside that even Lawrence has.
Goff is coming off of a 20-point performance against the Bengals in which he completed 19 of 23 passes. He’s been one of the most efficient players in football so far this season, but the Chris Jones and the Chiefs will be playing at home with their reputation on the line after the disappointment in how Monday night’s loss went for them. Look to Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, or even Drake Maye as potential solutions this week in 10-12 team leagues.
Start: David Montgomery
John Morton told the media ahead of this game that even if the Chiefs stack the box, the Lions are going to continue as planned with their run game until they can’t anymore. David Montgomery had a season-high 18 carries against the Bengals and outperformed his running mate Jahmyr Gibbs.
That won’t likely be the case every week, but Montgomery still remains heavily involved in this offense and is a worthwhile flex that could potentially get the start as a low-end RB2.
Start: Sam LaPorta
Tight end Sam LaPorta is coming off of his best game of the season, scoring 20+ points for the first time since his rookie year in 2023. The Lions found a variety of ways to get him into space including his impressive touchdown catch and run against the Bengals.
He got off to a slow start, but he still has a high floor as a pass catcher in the Lions offense. LaPorta is a low-end TE1 until proven otherwise.
Sit: Jameson Williams
Wide receiver Jameson Williams’s streak of “busts” so far this season continued against the Bengals, and there’s no indication that he’ll break out of this slump any time soon. His upside last season typically outweighed the risk of plugging him into a flex spot, but that may no longer be the case.
Williams will need to string together a couple of performances with a higher target share to be worth trusting week-to-week for fantasy managers.
Sit: Isaac TeSlaa
In the event that Kalif Raymond misses this game, three-receiver sets on offense could see a lot more of rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa. The one-handed-catching wonder used both hands to catch his second touchdown of the season last week against the Bengals which might be exciting some desperate fantasy managers who’ve been stashing TeSlaa away so far this season.
While there’s some potential for TeSlaa to earn more targets, it’s also just as likely that Jared Goff doesn’t look his way all night. If he’s available on your waivers, it could be worth stashing him to get ahead of next week’s waiver race, but don’t put him in your lineup just yet.
