TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray News) – A freshman college football player has been released from the hospital over a month after he was shot.
According to an update from Florida State University, Ethan Pritchard is being moved to a rehab center in Jacksonville for the next phase of his recovery.
Ethan Pritchard is “alert, responsive and able to communicate,” the university’s football team said in a press release.

Video from the hospital shows supporters cheering for Ethan Pritchard as he was released.
Ethan Pritchard was shot in August near the Havana Heights Apartments.
According to law enforcement, Ethan Pritchard was leaving a family cookout and driving two relatives home when he was shot.
“They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Keith Wilmer, with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, previously said during a press conference.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Three have been charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The fourth suspect is charged with violating his probation.
Officials from Florida State University’s football program went on to thank the medical staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee Neurological Clinic, Southern Medical Groups, Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic and Florida State’s Sports Medicine staff.
Earl Pritchard, Ethan Pritchard’s father, said he is also thankful for the medical staff and the prayers the family has received.
“I am so thankful for everyone who has prayed for my son,” Earl Pritchard said, in part. “There have been a lot of ups and downs over these last 39 days, and it is remarkable that Ethan and I were able to leave the hospital together today.”
