Detroit Lions hosted their first day of Rookie Mini Camp

  • May 12, 2025

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WNEM) – rookies got their first taste of begin a part of the NFL in Day one of Rookie Mini Camp.

For Friday through Sunday, 40 players that were either drafted, undrafted free agents and trying out, which includes Flint native Malik Taylor, get a chance to hit the field. For some to learn more about what the NFL level is like and for other, trying to impress the coaches and get a spot on the preseason roster.

“It’s still football to the same aspect as schemes and stuff, but there’s more in-depth here, if that makes sense,” said Tate Ratledge, Lions offensive lineman and 2025 2nd round draft pick. “You’re looking at more things, seeing more things. In college we had a pretty deep playbook, but this deep playbook that has more aspects to it.”

“This is great vibes, great people, great organization,” said Tyleik Williams, Lions defensive lineman and 2025 1st round draft pick. “Bunch of great athletes out here, so it’s definitely more competitive. It’s faster, so it’s going to be a learning process for everyone here, so it was a good day.”

For many of the players on the field today, it was an honor to be able to get their first experience in the NFL.

“That was a dream in itself, to go out there and win a state championship in Ford Field. Little did I know I would be back a little bit later wearing a Lions jersey, so I’m just ecstatic, grateful for the opportunity and excited to be out there,” said Isaac Teslaa, Lions wide receive and 2025 3rd round draft pick.

AHMED HASSANEIN: DETROIT LIONS DEFENSIVE LINE / 2025 6TH ROUND DRAFT PICK: “I’m just so excited, so honored to be here,” said Ahmed Hassanein, Lions defensive lineman and 2025 6th round draft pick. “It’s kind of like, it doesn’t feel real, it’s like I don’t want to leave the field, but I love it. The coaching, my teammates. Just the competitiveness. It’s been great and I’m just looking forward to tomorrow and just take it day-by-day.”

The rookies will be working with the coaches throughout the weekend and at the end of the May, the veteran players will back on the field and join in on the fun for OTAs.
