The Denver Broncos had 59 players attend rookie minicamp over the weekend. That list of players included 33 tryout players, headlined by four veterans.
The Broncos brought in quarterback Ian Book, running back Chris Evans, fullback Jack Colletto and tight end Cole Fotheringham for tryouts. As of the time of this writing, none of them have been signed (but that could change).
Book (6-0, 212 pounds) was a fourth-round pick with the New Orleans Saints in 2021. Sean Payton started him in one game that season when the Saints had an injury/COVID-19 crisis. “It will always help to have a veteran in these types of camps because they get you in and out of the huddle quicker,” Payton said. “So it’s been a while since I’ve seen him.”
Evans (5-11, 215 pounds) was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft. He missed last season with a ruptured patellar tendon, but he is healthy now.
Colletto (6-3, 237 pounds) went undrafted in 2023 and has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Broncos hosted him on a pre-draft visit two years ago. Colletto spent time at quarterback, inside linebacker and fullback in college.
Fotheringham (6-4, 243 pounds) went undrafted in 2022 and has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. He has dressed for two regular season games in his career, catching one pass for six yards in 2023.
