PORT JERVIS – Most teams would be satisfied with a 28-0 win over a rival who hoped to take them out.
Not Port Jervis. The Raiders have high expectations.
“Yeah, people might look at the score of 28-0, you know it’s a blowout,” Port Jervis quarterback Dylan Fox. “It’s a loss in our books.”
Fox starred once again for Port Jervis in the Section 9 Class B game. Fox rushed for a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and completed a pair of touchdown passes of 9 and 11 yards to Benjamin Rivera. Amato Natale scored the first touchdown for Port Jervis (6-0, 4-0 Class B) with a 58-yard run in the first quarter.
However, none of that seemed to matter after the Homecoming game, in which Fox was crowned king of the annual tradition at halftime. After those festivities, the Raiders took the ball in the third quarter and fumbled twice in Marlboro territory.
But Marlboro (3-2, 1-2 Class B), a team that lost to Port Jervis in the 2024 Class B title game, could not capitalize.
“I think we shot ourselves in the foot quite a bit tonight,” said Damien Striharsky, Port Jervis’ coach. “Just not there where guys are supposed to be, a lot of mental mistakes, which is usually not part of us. We can’t do that.”
The look on Fox’s face was one of disappointment after the game, but he vowed a dominating performance on Friday, Oct. 17, when Saugerties travels to this small city for a 6 p.m. game.
“I guarantee you next week we will come out harder,” said Fox, “ and we will put up at least 60 points on the board because that’s what we’re expected to do.”
