ALLPORT — Glendale used a big-play offense, particularly in the first half, Friday night to spoil West Branch’s Senior Night festivities with a 41-6 victory at L.T. Drivas Memorial Field.

The Vikings had 14 plays of 10 or more yards and seven that went for 20-plus in what ended as a late mercy-rule victory against the rival Warriors to end a two-game losing streak.

Glendale did a majority of that damage in the first half as it outgained the West Branch, 256-36, en route to building a 28-0 halftime lead. The Vikings had nine of those big plays in the first two quarters — three of which went for touchdowns.

Senior quarterback Logan Skebeck engineered that potent Vikings attack. He completed 15 of 24 passes for 217 yards with four first-half TD passes to go along with two interceptions. He also had seven carries for 73 yards.

Skebeck’s prime targets were senior Cameron Dreibelbis, who had three catches for 74 yards and two scores, and junior Levi Hamilton, who had four grabs for 74 yards and a score. Dreibelbis also had an interception on defense, as did junior Tanner Ammerman.

All told, the Vikings finished with a 390-101 advantage in total yards and eventually invoked the mercy rule clock with 2:56 to play when junior James Jenkins ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run and Connor Oshall booted the last of his five extra point to make it 41-6.

Glendale improved to 2-7 with the win, while West Branch fell to 0-8.

The Vikings got the opening the drive and quickly marched 56 yards on six plays — the first of four straight scoring drives to start the game — to grab an early 7-0 lead.

Skebeck jump-started the drive with a 14-yard run, then Gage Myers rumbled for 28 more to put the Vikings in the red zone. Skebeck hit Hamilton for a 6-yard touchdown pass three plays later on 3rd-and-2. Oshall’s kick made it 7-0 just 2:50 into the game,

West Branch picked up a first down on a Glendale penalty for helmet-to-helmet hit, but the Warriors were promptly made to punt. a 40-yard boot by senior Coby Kephart backed the Vikings down to their own 18.

That mattered little as Glendale needed just four plays to to go the length of the field.

Skebeck scrambled for 24 yards on first down, then hit Hamilton for 13 yards. Two plays later, Skebeck hit Dreibelbis in the right flat, and the Viking broke a tackle before racing 43 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.

Dreibelbis then struck on defense as he picked off a deep ball throw by West Branch’s Frankie Leskovansky on 3rd-and-16 at his own 23.

Glendale needed six plays to drive 77 yards this time around the quarter change.

Hamilton had the big play, racing 48 yards on a slant play after breaking an initial tackle. Kephart ran down Hamilton from behind to save a touchdown, but that only delayed the inevitable.

Skebeck threw a jump ball into the end zone three plays later, and junior Rhylan Hoopsick-Bell came down with it for a 15-yard touchdown to give the Vikings a 21-0 lead 26 seconds into the second quarter.

Glendale’s defense then forced another punt by the Warriors, who tried a fake from their own 31. However, Kephart’s pass fell incomplete as the Vikings were handed a short field.

Glendale took advantage and found the end zone just three plays later when Dreibelbis outjumped a defender in the end zone for a 20-yard TD pass from Skebeck to make it 28-0.

The Viking defense came up big again on the Warriors ensuing possession, as Tanner Ammerman picked off Leskovansky on a 4th-and-8 play after West Branch had crossed midfield.

Glendale couldn’t add to its lead, which could have potentially started the mercy rule clock at the beginning of the second half.

West Branch forced Glendale to punt for the first time in the game, then had Justin Esposti pick off Skebeck with 19 seconds to play in the half to keep it a 28-0 game at the half.

The Warriors got the ball to start the second half but turned it over on downs on four plays at their own 44.

Glendale promptly drove down the Warrior 12 on six plays, but it couldn’t score from there. Leskovansky thwarted the drive when he made a leaping interception over a Viking receiver in the end zone on fourth down.

However, the Warriors were again forced to punt, with Kephart getting off a booming 49-yard boot to flip the field.

Glendale’s offense then took over, churning out a 12-play, 70-yard scoring march around the quarter change that ate up 6:07 off the clock.

Skebeck had runs of 20 and 18 yards on the drive, while Dreibelbis broke free for 12 more on a jet sweep.

The Vikings ultimately turned to an unlikely source to cap the drive, as junior lineman Mason Brink lined up next to Skebeck on a 2nd down play and powered into the end zone from two yards to make it 34-0 with 10:02 to play. Oshall missed the extra point though.

West Branch avoided the shutout by scoring on the ensuing drive after a short squib kick was fielded by senior Reed Yingling.

Kephart had the play of the drive, making a nice leaping catch for 31 yards on 4th-and-8 to give the Warriors 1st-and-goal at the Glendale 8. Leskovansky scored on a 4-yard run three plays later with 6:38 to play. The extra point was low and blocked.

Jenkins finished off the scoring with his 40-yard TD scamper with 2:56 remaining.

Glendale plays at Curwensville Friday night, while West Branch travels to Moshannon Valley.
