The Kansas City Chiefs are slowly getting back to their best.
The franchise holds a 2-3 record so far this season, with their latest defeat inflicted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, however things are improving and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is confident it won’t be long until we see the Chiefs at their best again.

The statistics demonstrate that the Chiefs’ offense is out of their early-season slumber.
With 28 and 31 points in their last two games, there’s no need for alarm bells just yet in Kansas, especially with Mahomes beginning to find a downfield groove to go with his threat on the ground.
Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown are back and star receiver Rashee Rice will return in Week 7 after a six-game suspension, so there is room for optimism for Chiefs fans.
It is a sentiment Mahomes echoed in his pre-game press conference ahead of the Chiefs’ huge Monday Night Football clash against the Detroit Lions.

“We’re getting better,” Mahomes said.
“That’s all you can do. We’re getting better and better, obviously we got one more week that we’ll continue to have Rashee [Rice]. Just getting him into the offense as well. But at the end of the day, it’s all about winning.
“I think if we can start making those winning plays, that’s the last step that we need in order to take our offense to the next step.”
Errors costing the Chiefs in 2025
As the Chiefs prepare to take on the 4-1 Lions, who have won four straight after losing their Week 1 opener in Green Bay, they cannot afford costly errors, which have plagued them all season.
After 13 penalties against the Jaguars, which cost them 103 yards, such complacency will be ruthlessly exploited by Detroit.
That error-filled showing against the Jaguars also served as a microcosm of their 2-3 start to the season.

In Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs’ secondary struggled in coverage as players began running into each other, and receivers were wide open.
Kansas eventually went on to lose that game.
And in the last game against the Jaguars, the Chiefs lost in somewhat embarrassing fashion.
With 30 seconds left and the Jaguars at the 1-yard line, Lawrence had slipped, but somehow he got up and stumbled across the goal-line to snatch the victory.
Head coach Andy Reid accepted that penalties and errors are hurting his team’s rhythm,
“We’ve got to take care of that,” he said.

“That’s something we’ve got to fix. It’s getting us right now — and you can’t do that.
“So again, the best way to do it is you go out and practice it — and make sure you’re working on the things that have been causing the problems.”
Mahomes, Kelce chasing records in Kansas
As the Chiefs prepare to welcome the Lions to Missouri, aside from the opportunity to level their record, there is some extra motivation on the table for two of their stars.
Mahomes currently has 299 career touchdown passes across the regular and postseason included, in 138 games.
Should he get his 300th touchdown pass against the Lions, he will become the fastest player to reach such a feat, surpassing Aaron Rodgers, who got his 300th in 147 games.
Meanwhile, Kelce is one touchdown short of reaching 100, he will become just the fourth tight end to reach such a milestone in NFL history.
It’s all to play for in Kansas on Sunday night.
