So far, not so good for the Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. Many had hoped and believed that Henderson would win work over the fumbling fumbler Rhamondre Stevenson quickly, but he hasn’t. Despite Stevenson’s trouble holding onto the ball, Henderson has had his own troubles as a blocker and rushing between the tackles and the team just doesn’t trust him to take on the lead role.
But, the team just lost Antonio Gibson to a torn ACL. Mike Vrabel is running out of bodies at running back, so Henderson is going to see more snaps. After Gibson’s injury, Henderson did see more snaps, but with the team trailing, Stevenson was still used more since he’s who they trust in pass protection in come from behind mode.
Henderson was praised by scouts for his pass protection in college, but it hasn’t transferred to the pros just yet. We’ll see if he can improve in that area, but if the team has a lead, I do expect Henderson to get more work now that Gibson is done for the season.
Below, we’ll go over TreVeyon Henderson’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 6.
Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots, RB, TreVeyon Henderson
This week the Patriots face the 1-4 Saints in New Orleans as 3.5-point favorites. If the game flow has them out in front, we could finally see more Henderson than we have this season. We know he has ability in space and he hasn’t fumbled and the team needs his ability on offense. Of course, we can’t wish cast him into more usage, but the writing is on the wall that the team needs to get him going sooner than later.
The Saints have actually been pretty good against the run, but teams are able to run against them due to getting leads. That has led to them being 12th-worst in allowing fantasy points to running backs so far. I think we can project 15 touches for Henderson this week based on likely game flow and the absence of Gibson. Will that be enough to click him into your flex spot? It’s close.

Start. I may be going too far out on a limb here, but I do believe this is the week we see a concerted effort to get Henderson going.
