Week 6 on Sunday Night Football represented a potential Super Bowl preview entering the season as the 4-1 Detroit Lions take on the 2-3 Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in a primetime clash at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC. Detroit comes into this showdown on a four-game winning streak, while Kansas City is coming off a tough Monday Night loss in Jacksonville. These franchises have played just twice in the Patrick Mahomes era, and split those meetings in 2019 and 2023.

Since dropping the season opener to division rival Green Bay, Detroit has been a ball of fire, winning four consecutive games. During the four-game winning streak, the Lions have not scored less than 34 points in any of those games and dropped 52 on the Chicago Bears in Week 2. The defense has also shown up for Detroit, ranking eighth in the NFL in total yards allowed. Offensively, the Lions lead the league in scoring, averaging 34.8 points per game. They also rank sixth in total yards on offense, so the Chiefs’ defense will have its hands full on Sunday night.

Some have begun to question Kansas City after dropping two games in a row to start the season. In the last three games, the Chiefs are 2-1 and looking to bounce back at home following a loss to the Jaguars last week. Kansas City is barely ranked in the top 12 in scoring through five weeks of the season, averaging 25 points per game, and ranks in the lower third of the NFL in total yards, posting just 361 per game. If the Chiefs hope to hang around with the Lions, they’ll need to find that same level of explosiveness they once built a reputation on.
