The Cincinnati Bengals benching players has been a surprise emerging theme of the season so far.

Tops on the list is Zac Taylor and Bengals coaches pulling Jake Browning from the field and replacing him on short notice with Joe Flacco. That produced near-immediate results after a half of struggles, impressive considering how quickly the trade came together.

The Bengals benched another starter during Flacco’s debut, too, sitting Logan Wilson and going with two rookies.

Now…the Bengals shouldn’t stop there. The Bengals need to follow suit with these names, too.

Bengals players coaches should benchC Ted Karras

It’s just time. Great player, amazing in the community, the usual prerequisites apply. But at 32, Karras is clearly losing a step. Besides the eye test, he’s ranked 46th out of 49 centers at PFF. Maybe we wouldn’t suggest this if Joe Burrow was healthy because swapping out the heart of a line can cause issues. But they need to see what they have in Matt Lee and other backups.

CB Cam Taylor-Britt

Most would probably agree we’ve seen enough at this point. DJ Turner just had a fantastic game with at least five passes defended. Dax Hill is an obvious strength in the slot. Taylor-Britt is still locked in the slight highs and massive lows that hurt the defense on a weekly basis. It’s very obvious his spot and the safety roles are up for major replacements next offseason.

S Jordan Battle

There were always concerns that he was a tad slow and a little too much in the Vonn Bell mold to keep up. That’s being exposed when Battle plays a ton of snaps and defenses know to exploit it. The Bengals got a great summer from PJ Jules, so it might be time to give him more of a chance.

WR Andre Iosvias

The idea a 6’3”, super fast former track star could be a breakout was fun. But Iosvias is very much playing like his sixth-round draft status and marred by drop issues. There’s not much reason to keep breakout and Marvin Jones lookalike Mitchell Tinsley from the field anymore when they need depth snaps.
