One day after defeating the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin questioned the team for their trade of Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals last week.
“Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us because it doesn’t make sense to me to trade a QB you think enough of to make your opening-day starter to a division opponent that’s hurting in that area,” Tomlin said during a oress conference Monday. “But that’s just my personal feeling.”
Tomlin’s comments came three days before the Steelers travel to Cincinnati for a Thursday night game against the Bengals.
The Browns traded Flacco and a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Bengals last week for a fifth-round pick in the same draft.
Flacco played well against the Steelers during their last meeting during the 2024 season.
While playing in Indianapolis, he replaced an injured Anthony Richardson to lead the Colts to a 27-24 win over the Steelers.
Last month, Tomlin said he didn’t want to see Flacco play against the Steelers last year.
The Steelers come into Thursday’s game as the favorite but have struggled in the past as the road team in Thursday night football games.
Last season, the Steelers were upset in a similar game by the Browns, 24-19.
