CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson issued a statement to ESPN on Monday citing his frustration with the lack of communication from the Bengals about a possible contract extension.
The statement, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the following: “No communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post draft. The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level. Coaches are aware of these past conversations. Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals.”
Hendrickson is seeking a contract extension as he is the final year of his contract, which calls for him to make $15.8 million in base salary. He has seen defensive end Myles Garrett come to terms this offseason on a contract that carries an average annual value of $40 million; defensive end Maxx Crosby land a deal with a $35 million annual average value and defensive end Danielle Hunter land a one-year contract extension with the Houston Texans for $35.6 million.
Hendrickson, who led the NFL in sacks last season with 17.5, was given permission by the Bengals to seek a trade in March, but no team was apparently willing to give the Bengals draft compensation they were seeking.
