Tampa Bay rookie wideout Tez Johnson got his first taste of being a pro during the Buccaneers’ rookie minicamp. And he couldn’t be more excited to be at One Bucs Place.

Johnson has a tremendous passion for the game and is ready to share that passion with a new teammate.

The former Oregon Ducks receiver, who recently signed his first pro contract, sees the same passion he has for the game in his new quarterback, Baker Mayfield.

“That fire, that passion he plays with,” Johnson said. “You can just tell the Buccaneers, everyone on the team plays with that fire. Baker Mayfield carrying [Nick] Bosa on his shoulder, throws the ball still. That’s the fire.”

Johnson also sees Mayfield’s passion wearing off on his teammates since he’s been with the Buccaneers.

“There are so many guys on this team that play with that chip,” Johnson stated. “I think quarterbacks just love that.”

The Buccaneers drafted Johnson in the seventh round with the No. 235 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. There are some who think Johnson’s 5-10, 154-pound frame makes him undersized for the NFL, but his 4.51 40-yard dash speed is intriguing.

He’s shown he can play the game at a high level, and holds the top two seasons in Ducks’ history in terms of receptions with 86 and 83.

Johnson also posted 1,598 yards in two seasons at Troy before transferring to Oregon. That’s the most in the Sun Belt Conference during that time.

Johnson has the tools to be successful, but the only question is his size. And as far as his passion and heart for the game go, we’ll see how those compare with Mayfield’s this summer during training camp.
