According to one of the most popular advanced metrics, the Seattle Seahawks are the best team in the NFL.
And one of the best 4-2 teams in league history.
Through the first six weeks of the season, the Seahawks have an NFL-best 44.2% DVOA rating, per the analytical site FTN Fantasy. DVOA, a formula created by FTN Fantasy’s Aaron Schatz, measures a team’s overall efficiency by comparing success on every single play to a league average based on situation and opponent. So, by this measure, the Seahawks are considered to be 44.2% better than the average 2025 NFL team.

Seattle’s 44.2% DVOA rating is the best in the league by a considerable margin. The next-closest teams are the Indianapolis Colts at 33.6%, the Detroit Lions at 33.6% and the Los Angeles Rams at 33.1%.
Seattle’s 44.2% DVOA rating is also the second-best of any 4-2 team in the NFL since 1978, according to Schatz. The only 4-2 team with a higher mark was the 2015 Arizona Cardinals, who had a 45.1% DVOA rating through their first six games. That Cardinals team went 13-3 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game.
So, what does this all mean? Well, it’s an indication that the Seahawks have played even better than their 4-2 record suggests.
That certainly makes sense, as the Seahawks have the second-best point differential in the league at plus-49. And in both of their losses, they held a lead with less than two minutes to play. As their fans know all too well, the Seahawks are just a couple plays away from being 6-0.
It’s also notable that the Seahawks are the only team in the NFL to have a top-five DVOA rating on offense, defense and special teams. They rank fourth in offensive DVOA, fourth in defensive DVOA and first in special teams DVOA. That’s indicative of a well-balanced football team.
Some Seahawks fans might recall that Seattle was a DVOA darling back in the franchise’s glory years. The Seahawks finished the regular season at No. 1 in DVOA for four straight years between 2012 and 2015, which coincided with a run of success that included two Super Bowl trips, a Super Bowl title and a 46-18 regular-season record.
