The NFL announced Monday that the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys in the season-opening game on Thursday, September 4. The news came ahead of Wednesday’s planned 2025 NFL schedule release.
Sportsbooks released odds for the game shortly after the announcement. The Eagles opened as touchdown favorites at DraftKings Sportsbook and -6.5 favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook. Both sportsbooks have set the over/under at 46.5 total points.
NFL Week 1 odds for Eagles vs. Cowboys
Here are the complete odds for the Eagles vs. Cowboys matchup on Thursday, September 4 at 8:30 p.m. EST. These are the odds that were released soon after the game was announced on Monday, May 12, but they are subject to change.
NFL season opener betting odds history
The reigning Super Bowl champions have played in the NFL’s opening game in 20 of the last 21 seasons. They are 15-5 straight up, but two of those five losses have come in the last three years (the Chiefs lost to the Lions in 2023 and the Rams lost to the Bills in 2022).
The defending champs have been favored in 17 of those 20 games and were at least 6.5-point favorites five times. They are 11-6 against the spread as the favorites but just 1-4 ATS when favored by at least 6.5.
The Cowboys are responsible for two of those instances when the underdog covered against the champs. They covered +10 against the Buccaneers in 2021 and won outright against the Giants in 2012 as a 3.5-point underdog.

Philadelphia Eagles NFL futures odds
It’s no surprise that the Eagles are the early favorites to win Super Bowl 60 and are tied for the most projected wins at 11.5.
Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts is among the biggest favorites to win the MVP award, while Saquon Barkley is the favorite to win Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Best bet: Over 11.5 wins (+115 at Caesars)
Of all those NFL futures betting markets, the best bet right now is Philadelphia over 11.5 wins. The Eagles have won at least 11 games in three straight seasons, and they won 14 games in two of the last three seasons.
While they will have a much tougher schedule this season and lost several key starters from the Super Bowl roster, they are still one of the best (if not the best) rosters in the league. Getting +115 odds on that team to win 12 games for the third time in four years is a great value.
Jalen Hurts also looks like a solid value bet to win MVP. He was the runner-up in 2022 and likely would have won the award if not for a late-season injury.
Saquon Barkley stole the spotlight last season and made Hurts a non-factor in MVP voting, but it’s very unlikely that Barkley will rush for over 2,000 yards again (or even come close to that).
If Hurts’ passing numbers are closer to his 2022 season and the Eagles are once again one of the best teams in the league, then Hurts will be a strong MVP candidate again.
Dallas Cowboys NFL futures odds
After a disappointing 7-win season in 2024, the Cowboys have an over/under of 7.5 wins for the 2025 season; the odds favor the Cowboys going over that number.
The biggest storyline for the Cowboys heading into 2025 is the return of quarterback Dak Prescott, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 last year. Prescott is among the favorites to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Best bet: To make the playoffs (+210 at DraftKings)
The Cowboys are in a tough spot playing in the NFC East, which has not only the defending champion Eagles but also the Washington Commanders.
Washington made an unexpected run to the NFC Championship Game last year behind Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. That’s part of the reason the Cowboys have the fifth-toughest schedule in 2025 based on 2024 records.
That makes it tough to pick the Cowboys to return to the top of the NFC East, but they have a decent shot to grab a wild card spot if Prescott can stay healthy.
The offense should be much-improved with Prescott’s return, plus the recent acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens to start opposite CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys had made the playoffs for three straight seasons prior to last year, when health was their biggest issue. Betting on a healthier roster in 2025 to return to the postseason is the best value of any Cowboys futures bet right now.
