Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: after an offseason ripe with massive changes, many predicted the Seattle Seahawks would take a step back in the coming season. Well, part one of the storyline was written earlier this year, and part two is currently under way… which is the Seahawks end up being a really good team in spite of all the “experts” and their “brilliant analysis.”
Seattle is currently 4-2 on the year, with their only losses coming against the fellow 4-2 San Francisco 49ers and the 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In both instances, the Seahawks were still within a score and it came down to the final moments of the game.
Now folks are starting to see what is brewing in the Pacific Northwest, and it’s not just our coffee. Following Seattle’s dominant win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, the Seahawks have flown near the top of the latest power ranking from NFL.com. There, Lead Draft Writer Eric Edholm has Seattle at No. 3 overall in league.
Edholm writes:
“The Seahawks might have dropped their two toughest games of the young season at home, but they’ve looked pretty terrific on the road, having just improved to 10-1 under Mike Macdonald in the unfriendly confines since the beginning of last year. Seattle never felt truly threatened by Jacksonville on Sunday, in spite of the relatively close score. The Seahawks simply looked like the more complete and composed team. In a season where preseason favorites are sinking like crypto prices, that’ll play well if they can keep it up.”
Edholm went on to heap praise on Sam Darnold, bonafide No. 1 wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the bounce back performance from the Seahawks’ defense. Seattle, once again thin in the secondary due to widespread injuries, stepped it up in Jacksonville… or should I say, their defensive line did. The Seahawks’ defensive line aided their ailing secondary with seven sacks and 17 total hits of Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence as they held Jacksonville to only 12 points at home.
For those interested, the aforementioned Tampa Bay Buccaneers are No. 1 on this power ranking, and I’m sure part of the reason why the Bucs are so high is related to the fact they went into Seattle to beat this Seahawks team.
