Although it wasn’t running back Rico Dowdle for a second straight time, the Carolina Panthers still have themselves an NFC Player of the Week.

Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald has been named the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his perfect performance in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The rookie successfully converted on all three of his field-goal attempts, including a 55-yarder before the half and the walk-off 33-yarder as time expired, and all three of his extra-point tries.

Through six games, Fitzgerald has booted through 10 of his 11 field-goal attempts (90.9 percent) and 12 of his 13 extra-point tries (92.3 percent).

The Panthers signed Fitzgerald, a Florida State University standout, as an undrafted free agent this past spring. He’d stick on to the active roster into the regular season, beating out veteran journeyman Matthew Wright for the team’s kicking job.

Fitzgerald is the first Panthers special teamer to receive the conference’s weekly award since kicker Eddy PiƱeiro in Week 15 of the 2023 season.
