Kansas City will get a boost before playing the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, as wide receiver Rashee Rice is set to return from his six-game suspension. However, the Chiefs are unclear about the status of another key starter for Week 7.

Starting left tackle Josh Simmons was placed on the injury report before Sunday night’s game for “personal” reasons. The rookie first-round pick was inactive in Kansas City’s win.

On Wednesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid declined to comment on Simmons’ status for this week, leaving those duties up to general manager Brett Veach, per Pro Football Talk.

“As far as Josh Simmons’ situation goes, I’m not going to comment on it today,” Reid said. “(G.M. Brett) Veach is handling everything there. And we’ll leave it at that.”

Simmons has been an upgrade for the Chiefs at left tackle through his first five games this season. He reportedly missed the game against the Lions to travel to California for a “family matter.”

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes told the media he wasn’t going to go into details about Simmons’ situation but was praying for the rookie.

I’ll keep conversations kind of between us,” Mahomes said. “But I’m always praying for him. I’m praying for all my teammates, so I’m always praying for him. I’ll just keep everything else kind of private to us.”

Jaylon Moore made the start at left tackle in place of Simmons in Week 6. The 2021 fifth-round pick gave up one sack, two hurries and three pressures of Mahomes against the Lions.
