It takes a lot of commitment to be a college football coach.
Baylor’s Dave Aranda takes it to a pretty extreme level, though.
In a recent interview on The Hardline on 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM), Aranda revealed the extent of his single-minded commitment to the Bears football program.
When asked if he ever looks ahead to assess Baylor’s chances to make the Big 12 title game, he made it clear he’s only worried about the next game on the schedule.

“Honestly, no, it’s crazy the difference in just being in the building, the sense of urgency,” Aranda said. “It’s like a race, man. So you’re just racing the whole time and you get — I don’t eat during the day. It’s just like coffee and this race. Then when I get home late at night, I’m pretty exhausted, so I grab something to eat and then I crash and then you do it again the next day.”

Wait, so he doesn’t eat anything at all?
“No, no,” Aranda said.
Instead, it’s 10 cups of coffee or more for the Bears’ head coach.
“I have the HEB, the Texas Pecan. I love that. I have a little deal in here in the office that I use and so I’ll be like about 6 [cups] by maybe 9 o’clock,” Aranda said.
However unorthodox, the method seems to be working. Aranda’s Bears team is currently 4-2 with a 2-1 record in the Big 12 that has them near the top of the conference. Next up for Baylor is a huge rivalry game against TCU in Fort Worth this Saturday.
