Surely AJ Brown was also not expecting something like this from the Indianapolis Colts, who looked visibly frustrated after Philadelphia’s Week 4 win over Tampa Bay. Two catches, nine yards, and a cryptic post later, the star wideout suddenly found himself at the center of trade chatter. The Eagles might be 4-2, but something feels off between Brown and the offense.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has suggested a wild trade that could change the AFC playoff race. His proposal sends AJ Brown to the 5-1 Indianapolis Colts, who are thriving under coach Shane Steichen, in exchange for wide receiver Alec Pierce, edge rusher Kwity Paye, and a 2026 third-round pick.
That’s a massive swing for Indy, but it makes sense. Steichen and Brown already built magic together during the 2022 season in Philadelphia when the wideout recorded 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns. And if there’s one thing the Colts need right now, it’s a true WR1 to stretch the field and give their offense some strength.

The Colts have already been making bold moves lately. Just look at how the Indianapolis Colts have signed Brett Rypien after placing backup Anthony Richardson on the injured reserve. Adding AJ Brown would be another aggressive push to stay atop the AFC South.
Benjamin’s trade pitch frames it as a win-win for both sides. Indy gets a proven star with five 1,000-yard seasons, while Philadelphia adds youth and depth. Pierce brings size and vertical speed, and Paye strengthens a defensive front that thrives on rotation.
Brown seems like a perfect fit for Indianapolis. Coach Steichen knows how to use him, quick slants, deep routes, and red-zone plays. With Daniel Jones surprisingly ranking seventh in passing yards this season, the Colts are passing a lot. Brown would instantly become Jones’ top target and finally get the chances he’s been looking for.
Losing young talent always hurts, but for a 5-1 team chasing a playoff run, this kind of move shows absolute confidence. Brown has already shown what he can do with the right coach, and reuniting with Steichen could bring back the 50-touchdown form that once made him one of the NFL’s most dangerous receivers.
If this deal happens, the AFC South won’t just have a new frontrunner, it’ll have a new showstopper.
