Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix isn’t necessarily in a “sophomore slump.”

He also hasn’t really built on a great rookie year, at least not so far in 2025.

Nix is in the middle of the pack among NFL quarterbacks when it comes to yards (1,277) and touchdowns (9) through six games. He’s also thrown four interceptions, which is tied for the seventh-most and is completing only 64.6 percent of his passes, which ranks near the bottom of the league.

The good news is the Broncos are 4-2, tied atop the AFC West. Sure, a lot of that is because of Denver’s elite defense, but the offense has also had its moments.

Bo Nix has looked tight at times, perhaps trying to be perfect. Head coach Sean Payton made some comments this summer about Nix being a top-5 QB in the NFL soon, so it’s fair to wonder if that’s weighing on him.

After practice on Wednesday, Nix was asked if maybe he’s too hard on himself, and gave a revealing and thoughtful answer.

“I’m definitely tough on myself. I think it’s just how I grew up, how I was raised. My dad was my coach, so he was tough on me, so it just kind of continued,” Nix said.

And while Nix doesn’t like when he does something incorrectly, he also realizes the proper mindset is to just flush it and keep improving.

“I hate making mistakes, I hate not doing the correct thing and can be tough on myself. But at the same time I give myself some grace too and just move on and go to the next play. Sure, I’m going to make another mistake, and I’ll fix that when it happens,” Nix said.

Ultimately, it’s not the flashy plays that bother Bo Nix, it’s the simpler reads he has to make to keep the chains moving and the Broncos offense on the field.

“It’s just the routine ones and the ones that I should hit that I probably get the most irritated about. But next time I’ll just hit it and move on,” Nix said.

Clearly, Bo Nix is invested in this fully. Broncos Country knows that, but an honest answer like this one is always a good reminder that these superstar athletes are human like the rest of us.
