The Rams are looking for their fourth win of the season against a 49ers team playing with a chip on their shoulders
This Thursday, the LA Rams are preparing to welcome yet another tough opponent into SoFi Stadium after successfully defeating the blazing-hot Indianapolis Colts last week.
The thundering momentum echoing from Puka and the Rams shook the entire league after that triumphant 27-20 win, and it’ll certainly shake it once more when the team collides with their divisional rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. There’s a lot one must respect with this hardened 49ers squad, somehow managing to grasp a 3-1 record despite an onslaught of injuries and key players leaving for other teams in the offseason.Â
Currently, the 49ers’ injuries feature WR Juan Jennings (questionable), WR Rickey Pearsall (questionable), WR Brandon Aiyuk (questionable), DE Nick Bosa (injury reserve), TE George Kittle (injury reserve), and the list truly goes on.Â
However, the immensely talented RB Christian McCaffrey is having a textbook return to form after missing most of last season due to both a pedal Achilles sprain and a PCL sprain. He currently sits at 225 rushing yards on the season, and although he is yet to score a TD this season, he is arguably carrying this 49ers offense.Â
QB Brock Purdy is also trying to find his groove again after an underwhelming game resulting in a loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Purdy missed week 2 and week 3 due to a toe injury sustained in game 1, and even now, Purdy is listed as questionable to play this Thursday. Should Purdy miss the game, veteran backup QB Mac Jones will step in.Â

The Rams’ main mantra should focus on freezing their run game, their only true offensive threat. So far, the Rams have done a remarkable job doing so this season, currently sitting at 10th for rushing yards allowed by their opponents. If McCaffrey is shut down, the 49ers will scramble to air out the ball, which could work in L.A.’s favor, too, since they are 9th for passing yards allowed. The 49ers simply don’t have that much room to operate, posing as easy pickings for the Rams.Â
Defensively, Stafford must keep an eye out for ball-hawk LB Fred Warner, whose entire resume consists of destroying passing schemes and unloading ferocious tackles. The dual-threat of Puka and Davante will fortunately cause Warner to choose one or the other in coverage, so it’ll be up to Stafford to read the field correctly and pick the correct target while under pressure in the pocket.Â

If a big enough lead is acquired, expect Kyren and Blake to handle the ball on the ground, securing it away when the team decides they don’t need to be as aggressive with passing if a substantial point margin is gained.
