The Washington Commanders are signing former first-round pick Treylon Burks to their practice squad, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

While Rapoport initially reported the Commanders were expected to sign Burks, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic confirmed the news. Once officially signed, Washington is expected to elevate Burks “quickly.”

The Tennessee Titans picked Burks with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Arkansas. The 25-year-old wide receiver was limited due to injuries and subpar quarterback play during his three years with Tennessee. Burks appeared in 27 out of a possible 51 regular-season games with the Titans and was recently waived. The Commanders used the No. 16 pick in that 2022 NFL draft on wide receiver Jahan Dotson, only to trade him two years later. He has 53 career receptions for 699 yards and one touchdown.

The Commanders recently placed wide receiver Noah Brown on injured reserve with groin/knee injuries. Terry McLaurin has missed three consecutive games and was absent from practice again on Thursday. Deebo Samuel has dealt with a heel injury for the past two weeks, but has still played. He also missed Thursday’s practice.

The Commanders play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and there’s a chance we could see Burks in the burgundy and gold sooner rather than later.
