JASPER COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Another Heidelberg High School football opponent has said it will not play the Oilers.
The East Jasper School District said on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon that Kemper County High School had cancelled its Oct. 24 game at Heidelberg.
No explanation was given in the district’s post for the cancellation.
Kemper County became the second opponent to cancel scheduled football games with the Oilers since a deadly incident on campus after the Mize High School-Heidelberg homecoming game on Oct.10.
Two people were shot and killed and a third succumbed to undisclosed injuries.
Through Thursday afternoon, six people had been arrested and charged in connection to the incident
Bay Springs High School announced Monday that it would not make the cross-county trip Friday night to play the Oilers.
Bay Springs High School football head coach Regrick Young said Thursday evening that Friday’s game would go down as a forfeit by the Bulldogs.
That means Heidelberg would be credited with a victory, Bay Springs with a loss.
The East Jasper School District’s full Facebook announcement on the Kemper County game read:
“Dear Oiler Nation:
“Kemper County has cancelled the October 24th Friday night football against our Heidelberg Oilers.”
A one-line statement leading off the post read “This violence does not reflect who we are.”
