Even though Shedeur Sanders fell to the fifth round, he’s turning heads in the Cleveland Browns rookie minicamp.

NFL rookie mini camps started this week and the former Colorado quarterback has been making his presence known in Cleveland even more so than his other rookie counterparts. According to NFL on FOX insider and former running back LeSean McCoy, Sanders has looked like the best player in the Browns’ entire camp.

Sanders’s draft skid was unprecedented as most mock drafts had him as a first-round talent. For whatever reason the signal caller fell. Despite the fall, Sanders has put his head down and gone to work. McCoy credits his success in minicamp, so far, to his mindset.

“I got my sources…and they told me… that he looks like the best player out of the whole camp, [and he’s a] fifth-rounder,” McCoy said on FS1’s The Facility on Monday. “If you look at Shedeur Sanders, his mindset ain’t to be in no backup role with [the Browns]. He’s in there to start.”

Sanders will have plenty of competition for the starting role in Cleveland. As of right now, the Browns have four other quarterbacks on their roster Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and another rookie Dillion Gabriel. However with Sanders already making his mark this early into the NFL season with OTAs and training camp still to come, Sanders could be getting first-team reps despite being the fifth QB listed on the roster.

“He looks way more focused, but even [with] the focus he looks like himself,” McCoy said. “Ain’t nothing changed about Shedeur.”

If Sanders continues to impress at this pace, it won’t be long before the Browns are forced to give him a serious look under center. Fifth-round pick or not, he is proving that talent and mindset can’t be overlooked.
