GALAX, Va. (WDBJ) – Galax City Public Schools (GCPS) has canceled all games for the remainder of the 2025 football season.
A statement from GCPS Assistant Superintendent Charles S. Byrd says the reason is “…unfortunately low participation numbers and a growing list of injuries that have compromised our ability to safely compete… ”
After already canceling several games early in the season, Byrd says the school division’s focus has shifted to the future, with a goal of increased participation, building strength and laying a foundation for the future, including an active 2026 season.
