Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the former No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the country.

Donovan Peoples-Jones, the 2017 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech standout and former five-star, played for three years in Ann Arbor and never quite lived up to his billing as the nation’s top pass catcher coming out of high school. Still, he was drafted late in the 2020 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns and even got a chance to play for the hometown Detroit Lions for a few seasons.

However, after the Lions cut Peoples-Jones, he had to go back to the drawing board and get back to work.

After training this offseason down in Florida, Peoples-Jones ended up getting another opportunity. The New Orleans Saints announced that he’ll be joining the new-look team this offseason.

This will be Peoples-Jones’ sixth year in the NFL, though he was on the Lions’ practice squad this past season. At the moment, Peoples-Jones is one of 11 Saints receivers on the roster, highlighted by former Ohio State standout Chris Olave, 12-year Oregon State vet Brandin Cooks, and others.

The Saints have a new quarterback situation after Derek Carr’s retirement. New Orleans drafted Tyler Shough out of Louisville to compete along with Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler. Kellen Moore takes over this year as the new head coach and former Michigan offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will be overseeing the offense in The Big Easy.
